A Brief History of Castle Hedingham Tennis Juniors

Approximately eleven years ago Castle Hedingham Tennis Club started a junior membership scheme that included 10 weeks of coaching. The price for this back then was £30.00. In 2006 the cost was £35.00! We think you would be hard pressed to find such a reasonable membership that offers such amazing value! As back then, the membership also gives free use of the courts all year round (when not in use by the club). The only real change over the years is for the membership coaching to have been extended to children as young as four.

The Coaches

In 2006 we introduced Marc Squire, who completed his LTA DCA level in April o6 and is also registered with the Professional Tennis Association (PTA). Marc is also head coach of Thaxted Tennis Club. Marc has the training and background to teach the game from the very basic to the advanced, giving technical support with a focus on performance.

• Getting children on court at an early age is the best way to bring out their natural skills and enjoyment of the game
• The aims of playing Tennis are fun, learning, excitement, success, competition and social interaction. Everything else is a bonus events
• Private tennis teaching is available from our coaches

How we do it

The coaching sessions are divided into four groups, three of which are colour-coded stages: Red, Amber, Green followed by Advanced, like the sequence of traffic lights. Children can move up from red to green as they improve their technique. Balls and nets are designed for younger and smaller players and in the process, the court size, racket length, ball speed and the length of games all increase until players are ready to move on to the full game of tennis.

When we do it

Our coaching season runs from early May through to the end of July. In more recent years we have also organised Autumn courses from early September through to the end of October.
